Volvo Car USA posts 15.2 percent sales growth in December, closes 2020 up 1.8 percent

Volvo Car USA reported 14,244 cars sold in December, up 15.2 percent over 2019 and its seventh consecutive month of year-over-year growth. The company finished 2020 up 1.8 percent over last year with 110,129 cars sold.

Volume was led by the XC90 luxury SUV, which was up 7.2 percent over December 2019. The brand’s other SUV models also posted growth in December, maintaining their strong positions within the Volvo lineup. The XC40 saw another record month with 69.3 percent growth over December 2019, while the XC60 posted 21.3 percent growth in the same period.

The brand’s share of Recharge models – vehicles with fully electric or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains – continued to grow, accounting for 12 percent of total December sales.

Overall, the entire Volvo Car Americas region delivered sales success in December 2020 up 13.9 percent year-over-year. Volvo Car Canada reported a year-over-year sales increase of 4.2 percent for December and Latin America contributed with an increase of 9.7 percent over December 2019.
